Going Back To Where You Are From

Going Back To Where You Are From
Clayhole KY church after the flood in 2022.

"I come from a a place most people couldn't point to on a map: Clayhole, Kentucky. My family lived in near-complete isolation for over a century-no phone lines, no cars, no television sets buzzing in the background. No indoor plumbing, no electricity, not even running water. The kind of life that makes you grit your teeth and work with whatever's in front of you. But my family had what mattered: faith, grit, and each other. And even when we had little, we gave freely. My family is the kind who'd hand you their last piece of cornbread without linking."

When the flood of 2022 Appalachian floods hit it became the deadliest natural disaster in eastern Kentucky in more than 80 years. Water rushed down slopes quickly and creeks turned into destructive flash floods. The church my great grandpa had built became a washing machine inside the walls. Our family barns will filled with mud, gardens were washed away, and homes were destroyed.

You have to remember in moments like this to roll up your sleeves and get to work to rebuild. When you experience this and show up you build strength that will help carry you through battles you never saw coming...So remember where you come from and build on that in moments of doubt...
