One Tiger Heritage Award: Nate’s Speech
Have you ever witnessed a moment so raw and unexpected that it settles into your heart and leaves you unsure how to respond? One of those moments found me on June 14, 2019.
That day, Nate Moore gave one of the most heart-wrenching and beautiful speeches I have ever heard. It wasn’t about football. It wasn’t about “Team Above Self.” It wasn’t a motivational message meant to fire up a room. It was something far braver than that. It was a love letter spoken out loud—a heartfelt tribute to me, his wife.
As the audience sat quietly and listened, I watched the man I married step away from the coach everyone knows. He laid down the armor, the title, the expectations, and spoke from a place that was deeply personal and profoundly vulnerable. I remember sitting there thinking, I cannot believe I am married to this man. A man willing to expose his heart so openly, even in a room full of people, for a moment that was never about recognition or applause.
To this day, I still wrestle with feeling worthy of the award that accompanied that speech. I am incredibly grateful to those who honored me, but humility—and love—made it hard to accept the spotlight. That is why I didn’t originally include this moment as a chapter. And yet, it mattered too much to leave out.
This speech deserves to be shared because it reveals a side of Nate that few ever get to see. It shows what our marriage truly is when everything else is stripped away—the titles, the pressure, the public image. What remains is partnership. Commitment. Respect. Love that is imperfect, challenging, and deeply real.
I wanted to honor the man who is far more than a coach. He is a mentor, not just in leadership, but in how to love well. He shows young men that marriage isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. It’s messy. It’s hard. And when rooted in love and respect, it is powerful beyond measure.
I hope you take in this glimpse of the man behind the whistle, the future legendary coach, and the person I am proud to call my husband—Nate Moore.
