Prologue

Prologue
I had the honor of speaking at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

That quote feels like the heartbeat of this entire book.

It wasn’t easy deciding where to begin my story. There are a hundred moments that shaped me. A hundred battles I could have opened with. But I kept coming back to one place — a place I never imagined I would stand… let alone speak.

A stage graced by names like Tony Dungy, Urban Meyer, and leaders I had watched from a distance for years. Men who carried influence. Authority. Platforms. And there I was — stepping into that same space, microphone in hand, heart pounding.

I remember thinking, How did I get here?
What had I done to deserve this audience?
Why me?

It felt surreal. Humbling. Sacred, even.

Because the truth is — I didn’t arrive there by accident. I arrived there through every chapter you’re about to read. Through the fight. Through the refining. Through the moments I could have folded but didn’t.

Beginning the story there felt right. Not because it was the peak — but because it was proof. Proof that you can stay true to who you are, even when the world pressures you to bend. Proof that the very things that made you different may one day become the reason you’re standing on stages you never dreamed of.

My hope as you read this book is simple.

I hope it changes you.
I hope it challenges you.
I hope it calls something out of you that you’ve been holding back.

And more than anything — I hope it reminds you that being fully, unapologetically yourself is still the greatest accomplishment of all.
